If you’ve noticed lately, there has been a big hoo-haa about teachers in the news. It appears to me that the public sees teachers as psychotic beings that live only to torment students. What ever happened to trusting teachers?

The public just keeps highlighting teachers faults. And the Ministry isn’t really doing much to help teachers, I mean help defend teachers. The Ministry would be the first to jump on the teacher instead of helping people understand the burden of teachers.

The Ministry dok sibuk bela nasib budak-budak, tapi nasib cikgu-cikgu yang dok kena maki dengan parents, siapa yang nak bela? Nak harap kat NUTP?

Controlling and disciplining kids is not as easy as what the media and Ministry portrays. Gone are the days where teachers had the power rotan and punish the kids. Gone are the days where students respected their teachers. Now teachers feel that they are being ridiculed. Now it’s the teachers who feel threatened in class. How the world has changed. Kids know that teachers are now under scrutiny and what teachers can and cannot do. One wrong move by the teachers, and they might end up in the principal’s room or worse, television.

They say that teaching is a noble job. But why aren’t teachers being treated with the respect that they deserve? Why are they being treated with such double standards. The Ministry talks about ‘menaikkan taraf profesion perguruan’, but all I see them belittling the profession.

Teachers are humans too. If they act out of character, there should be a logical reason for it.

If you find it difficult to teach your own kid, if your own kids drive you crazy sometimes, imagine what we teachers have to go through with 1000 students a day.

Teacher’s aren’t all bad or crazy, as kids aren’t all innocent.

If the Ministry can set up a hotline for students, why not set one up for teachers?
